The PFLAG Washington State Council is a coalition of Washington State PFLAG chapters. We consist of chapter and community leaders dedicated to moving equality forward. Together, we work to help state chapters become successful in their missions to provide support, education, and advocacy to the LGBTQ community, their family and friends.
We are all part of PFLAG National, the oldest LGBTQ advocacy group in the nation and a powerful grassroots effort of volunteers. Founded in 1972, PFLAG National is committed to advancing support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) people through support, education, and advocacy. Our memberships consists of families, friends and allies of LGBTQ people, as well as LGBTQ people themselves.
As PFLAG members, we are dedicated to respectful dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identify, and creating a society that recognizes and respects our human diversity, both by our laws and the way we treat each other. We strive to create change by staying true to our core PFLAG values.
- We believe in the power of telling our stories. We have learned that when put a human face on the issue, speak from our hearts, and live out loud, we can open hearts and minds.
- We respectfully and politely build bridges to engage and persuade people who do not understand us, are undecided about us, or even against LGBTQ equality. We believe we are all on a journey to LGBTQ equality and we expect to meet people at their different spots on the way.
- We lead by love so that we can unify and stand for families and empower our children, no matter their sexuality or gender, to lead happy and productive lives. Above all, PFLAG is love.
- We are a proud people who model LGBTQ equalty with the dignity and integrity of our words and actions.
